TurboTax Business

building a 0-1 product

WHAT

I contributed to building an entire product from the ground up, TurboTax’s first B2B SaaS offering, which combined tax filing and bookkeeping with QuickBooks.

WHY

75% of CPAs will hit retirement age by 2035, so TurboTax’s goal was to fill this critical gap in the market, reinforcing their position in the industry.

CONTRIBUTION

Designed flows from components of other TurboTax products
Collaborated with developers to determine technical feasibility and design constraints
Operated with complex and ever-changing requirements, while avoiding scope creep
Wrote and edited all content in the end-to-end experience
Contributed to user research, learning plans, and synthesis sessions

TurboTax Business

modernizing tax flows

WHAT

My team updated flows across 500+ screens while migrating the flows to a new tech stack, delivering a streamlined experience that met new design standards—all in one summer.

WHY

The UI was over 10 years old and dusty, still based on a deprecated desktop app. My goal wanted to give our business tax users an improved user experience that could stand on its own with minimal maintenance.

CONTRIBUTION

Created help content
Evaluated points of friction in user journey
Wrote all the in-product content
Worked closely with SMEs on high-complexity tax topics
Mapped UI fields to appropriate tax forms
Designed flows for a high volume of edge cases, prioritized based on user data

Affirm Returnly

designing an onboarding flow

WHAT

I designed a much-needed onboarding flow that helped users complete account setup on their own, no longer needing to rely on the implementation team to complete their enrollment.

WHY

It wasn’t scalable for users to rely on the implementation team to onboard.

CONTRIBUTION

Designed new modals
Wrote onboarding content
Participated in user research sessions
Consulted implementation team to research requirements
Build a scalable design
Set benchmarks for iteration
